So my 2016 Impala has been shifting really rough between gears for the past few months, especially when it’s downshifting at lower speeds, and I was honestly starting to worry that the transmission was on its way out which would have been a financial disaster that I definitely wasn’t prepared for. I took it to a couple of transmission shops and they all gave me these scary quotes for a full rebuild without even properly diagnosing the problem, which felt like they were just trying to scare me into spending a fortune. I’d be pretty worried too if a car started shifting that badly and multiple shops were already talking about a full rebuild. It’s a good reminder that getting a proper diagnosis first can save a lot of money, since something like old fluid and a clogged filter can cause some surprisingly bad shifting symptoms. The fact that the Impala was back to shifting smoothly after the service must have been a huge relief.
