Ana hi, Definitely always a risk of diagnosing the symptom rather than the root cause. As others have noted above vision can be lacking and core financial skills can be lacking. You can hire financial skills. Vision belongs with the owners/founder/leaders (not with the managers).

Totally agreed about the motivation Radosveta – freedom and creating your own job/workplace/team/way-of-working. I have been working on consolidating some research on ‘why’ people in Ireland, a small, open developed economy, opt to become entrepreneurs. There is, I think, far too much focus on the profit motive at the expense of a deeper understanding of reasons beyond-profit.

As said before, it depends on the situation.

For sure, active listening and thoughtful questioning build trust in mentorship. Formalizing expectations also is helpful in ensuring a productive relationship.

I really thought that it will take over our life our jobs our everything. That was then.. when I did not know all of its limitations.
Now.. there is no fear. I see it as a tool that helps us be better, and faster at what we do.

Most entrepreneurs rarely have opportunities to discuss their business extensively without the other party having a sales or other agenda. However, it is important that a mentor does not, by listening, give approval to things that are not right. From my experience, the best trust relationship is built when, in between listening, the mentor asks questions that make the entrepreneur think about the issue from a different perspective.

It is the responsibility of a mentor in the interest of the mentee to ask other mentors for support. In turn the mentor may give support to other mentors in areas where he has specialized knowledge. For me this is the benefit of networks.
